The Silent Press

by Muhannad Shono

A conceptual installation featuring a metallic structure and rolling paper scroll that explores language, textuality, and the boundary between legible words and visual expression.

The Silent Press examines language not merely as a direct tool for communication, but as a visual, evolving, and physical form. Drawing on regional calligraphic traditions, the artwork features a paper-and-metal structure holding an unspooling scroll filled with mark-making that defies traditional legibility. Through monochromatic tones and mechanical interventions, the piece invites viewers to explore the spaces between silence, censorship, and universal expression.
