Heart Space
by Krista Kim
Heart Space is a groundbreaking, immersive digital art installation created by contemporary artist Krista Kim, a leading pioneer of the "Techism" art movement. It was commissioned by Julius Baer for its #NEXT initiative and debuted at Art Dubai 2024.The artwork uses medical-grade ECG (electrocardiogram) heartbeat sensors and generative AI algorithms. Up to four visitors at a time sit at interactive stations and place their hands on the biometric sensors, which instantly record their real-time heart rhythms.
The installation takes place inside a specialized room wrapped entirely in infinity mirrors. The AI software instantly translates the participants' raw cardiac data into vibrant, shifting ribbon-like waveforms of light and color across a massive, floor-to-ceiling LED canvas. Because of the mirrors, the waves of light repeat endlessly, completely enveloping the audience.
The artwork aims to visually demonstrate human interconnectedness. As the individual heartbeats of strangers fill the room simultaneously, the generative software causes the different visual waves to blend, ripple against each other, and slowly synchronize into a singular, beautiful, and shared audio-visual landscape. It transforms pure biological data into a collective experience of "oneness."

Our involvement
For Krista Kim’s Heart Space, our team members supported the specialized fabrication, hardware integration, and site installation of the multi-sensory room including its infinity mirror structure, interactive biometric sensor stations, and large-scale LED display systems. This work was executed through our team members' previous professional engagements with the project’s lead fabricators and subcontractors.
